How fascinating to hear the way the artist manages to combine the genre.
Singer, songwriter, producer and violinist Sudan Archives has just released a new single, “Nont For Sale”. The song arrives in conjunction with the announcement of her forthcoming sophomore EP Sink, set for May 25 release.
Sudan Archives grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she “messed around with instruments in the house” and took up violin in the fourth grade, eventually teaching herself how to play the instrument by ear. When she discovered the violin playing style of Northeast Africa, her eyes opened to the possibilities of the instrument.
“Nont For Sale” is a mix of hip-hop beats and violin riffs interlock with layers of string. A unique and timeless song that show her influences, from Sudanese fiddlers and West African musicians like Asim Gorashi, Ali Farka Touré and Juldeh Camarah.
Definitely one of the artist to watch out for in 2018.
